Description
Benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, or oral tetracycline or minocycline are examples of treatments for severe cystic acne, also referred to as nodular acne, that have not worked. Accutane is used to treat these conditions. It is a member of the retinoid drug class.
About half of those taking Accutane report that their acne “cures,” meaning they never need to see a doctor again. Approximately one in five patients experience mild worsening during the first few weeks of treatment, and one in 500 experience severe worsening.
